Billy Kee nabbed a late winner with his ninth goal of the season to see off County and leave the Brewers flying high.
Rowett said: "That's as well as we've played in the whole of 2013.
"It's taken us joint-top with Scunthorpe and Chesterfield but I think there is more to come from us.
"That's what's most pleasing because we're only playing at 90 or 95 per cent of what we're capable of."
Kee's goal came 10 minutes from time after the Exiles had ridden their luck.
Rowett said: "You've got to remember Newport are the in-form team in this division over the last 10 games, really flying high, and we've won 1-0 and created another four or five really good chances.
"First half I thought we were really, really dominant and in the second half we played with some really good control.
"We really restricted them in terms of attempts on goal, whereas their 'keeper has made three or four good saves - one of them fantastic off Shane Cansdell-Sherriff - and we've also hit the bar and a post.
"We're playing with a real edge about us and I'm pleased with what I'm seeing.
"It's a joy to be part of it and we've just got to keep our heads and keep working."
