Football - Rowett curses slow start

Burton manager Gary Rowett was disappointed with his side's performance after they slumped to yet another away defeat, this time a 3-0 loss at York.

The Brewers were made to pay for a sloppy start but missed the opportunity to get back into the game with Billy Kee and Cleveland Taylor missing good openings.

Rowett is hopeful his side can fix their form on the road if they are to challenge for a play-off spot.

"We started poorly and the fact that Zander Diamond was ill this morning has disrupted our performance a little bit, but that's the way it is," he said. "We had a new defensive pairing in there but we started poorly and as far as I'm concerned we gave them an opportunity early on to get the early goal.

"The disappointing thing for me was just the way we started. It wasn't the intensity and urgency that we've showed in the past two home games, so from that point of view it was disappointing.

"Sometimes away from home we've got this mentality where we don't do the things we do at home and that's what has happened.

"We can't keep going away from home and losing because that's three goals we've let in again. At the same time they're an honest group and they've not done that on purpose."
