However, Hill was furious with referee Seb Stockbridge's decision to send off Dale skipper Peter Cavanagh after only seven minutes for a high challenge on midfielder Robbie Weir.
Rowett said: "I thought it was a little bit harsh on Keith's side that the player got sent off and I thought it probably killed the game a bit as a spectacle."
The goal which separated the two sides was a scrappy one that typified a game that produced little in the way of goalmouth excitement, but Rowett was nevertheless happy to take the three points.
He added: "It was a great result and I'm not too worried about the performance at this moment.
"We didn't play as well as we can do, not anywhere near really. We moved the ball too slowly and didn't take as much care as we could have done but that's going to happen from time to time.
"But I was pleased with our shape, I was pleased with our defensive performance and, though we've not played as well as we would like, we've got two wins and a draw so far this season."
