Tom Ince fired the Seasiders ahead in the 16th minute before Liam Trotter equalised from the spot on the brink of half-time after Isaiah Osbourne was judged to have handled in the area.

But Thompson believes the referee got the call wrong, saying: "We watched it at half-time and we feel a bad decision has gone against us, it was nowhere near his hand.

"It's a bad time to give away a penalty. They go in with their tails up and we are deflated."

Superb strikes in 90 second-half seconds from Nicky Bailey and substitute Steve Morison secured a much-needed 3-1 victory for the Lions and Thompson admitted they deserved to win.

He added: "In the second half they came out with fire in their belly and they deserved it while we looked leggy."
