Football - Turner backs Canaries response

Defender Michael Turner is confident Norwich can regroup from their 4-0 thrashing at Manchester United to put themselves back on course for Barclays Premier League safety.

The Canaries were stuffed at Old Trafford last weekend, as Japan international Shinji Kagawa rolled in a hat-trick.

However, results elsewhere failed to eat into Norwich's eight-point cushion over the bottom three, and Chris Hughton's men will be targeting a second successive home victory when relegation-battlers Southampton come to Carrow Road on Saturday.

"There are teams at the bottom fighting for their lives now and there is still work to be done for us," centre-half Turner said in the Eastern Daily Press.

"We have got a bit of breathing space between ourselves and the bottom three, but we know what we need to do to stay clear of it.

"Southampton is a huge game where we will be looking to put in a performance at home again, and take something from that game."
