Football - Turner reserves praise for Parry

Graham Turner hailed Paul Parry after he kept his nerve to snatch a late 2-2 draw for Shrewsbury amid a thrilling finale against Carlisle.

Town led thanks to a Tom Bradshaw goal going into the final five minutes at the Greenhous Meadow before David Amoo and Sean O'Hanlon turned the game on its head to fire Carlisle in front.

Turner was frustrated to see Shrews continue their habit of conceding late goals but he was happy to see Parry race through and rescue a point for the home side in injury time.

"Paul can do that and he's played at a good level," said Turner, who was celebrating his 66th birthday. "He's played in an FA Cup final and he's played international football.

"If you wanted to stick someone on the ball in that position late in the game to save us a point then I would pick Paul Parry out and he dispatched it extremely well."

Turner was disappointed with the manner of both Carlisle goals but felt his team deserved some reward for their efforts.

He added: "We played reasonably well and got ourselves into one or two decent positions. Teams will do an assessment on us and we've got this little spell of conceding late goals so they will stick a lot of balls into our box."
