Sir Alex Ferguson and his players will attend a send-off event at Old Trafford at 6pm, hours after the United manager confirmed this would be his final season.

Their open-topped bus is due to leave at 6.30pm, with the event due to finish at 8pm, after the squad have made their way into the city.

It is anticipated significantly more people will attend than those who braved heavy rain to acclaim United's record 19th title two years ago.

Club chief executive David Gill said: "Winning a 20th league title is a huge achievement for the club and we are excited to be able to share this special moment with our fans.

"The support from the fans has been incredible this season and we're looking forward to celebrating with them during the trophy parade."
