Connor Wickham netted twice as managerless Sheffield Wednesday beat Leicester

The Sunderland forward, 20, scored both goals as the managerless Owls responded to Dave Jones' sacking by beating league leaders Leicester 2-1 on Tuesday night.

That took his tally to four goals in five games and he is enjoying life at Hillsborough.

"That's what I came here to do," he said. "Just do my best, score goals and get games and I have started and finished every game since I came so I am feeling sharp and strong and the goals are coming."

The first of his two goals on Tuesday was a fine finish as he cut in from the right and smashed a shot past Kasper Schmeichel, though his second was more fortunate as a cross evaded everyone and crept in at the far post.

Not that the former Ipswich starlet was too bothered.

"I just knew what I wanted to do before the ball came to me, I just wanted to stick it to the back post and see if someone could get on the end of it if it went in a good area," he added.

"And it ended up in a very good area!

"I'll take any goal that hits the back of the net for me, I'll take it, whether it's from one yard or the edge of the box if it goes in it doesn't matter."
