QPR were on course for a 1-0 win against Wigan until with what was virtually the final kick of the match Shaun Maloney drove home a 20-yard free-kick to rescue a draw.

What's worse is that Taarabt jumped to head the ball away - but ducked out at the last millisecond to let the ball pass through where his head had been and into the net.

Is Taarabt to blame, though? After all, club skipper Jamie Mackie was right next to Taarabt and didn't even jump.

But the video speaks for itself: Taarabt clearly acted on instinct as he realised the ball was coming for him, and put his unbroken nose ahead of his team.

Despite the increased parachute payments, the cost of relegation is steep, and estimated by an expert at accountancy firm Deloitte's to be in the region of £40m-£50m this season, given the increased value of next season's television deal for the Premier League.

Harry Redknapp said that the goal was the worst moment of his entire football career: "All season? I don't think I've had a tougher result to take in my football career, never mind all season.

"We didn't deserve that, we deserved to win. It was a fantastic performance from every one of them. The result was criminal.

"Even with 10 men we deserved to win. The players are low, just like I am. Very low. You don't always get what you deserve in football, that's how it goes."
