Calvin Zola joined Aberdeen in the summer from Burton

The former Burton frontman took seven games to open his Dons account but finally found the net with a close-range header in the 3-0 win over Partick Thistle last Saturday.

Fellow forward Josh Magennis also grabbed his opening strike of the new campaign and McInnes was delighted for them both.

Now with Inverness set to visit Pittodrie on Saturday, the Reds boss is confident the duo will continue to plunder opposition defences now that the pressure of breaking their respective ducks has been lifted.

He said: "Calvin is like any other striker. They want to see the ball hit the back of the net and that goal will help him.

"When a new striker goes to a new club they want to get off the mark as quickly as possible. For various reasons it has taken a bit longer than he anticipated.

"We also got Josh up and running last week as well and I'm sure he will continue to do well."

Unbeaten Inverness top the Scottish Premiership but, with Falkirk in the League Cup and a top-flight fixture against St Mirren also awaiting Aberdeen in the next week, McInnes believes a victory over the Highlanders will set them up for a clean sweep.

"It is a big week for us with three big games," he said.

"It is important the players go into each game with confidence and we can get that from a win on Saturday."
