Ford rules out drafting Sordo in again

Ford team principal Malcolm Wilson has put to bed speculation that Dani Sordo will drive a factory Fiesta RS WRC again this season. The Spaniard was drafted into the British team for Rally Argentina after Jari-Matti Latvala broke his collarbone in a cross-country skiing accident last month. Sordo was on course for a podium finish in Villa Carlos Paz when his Ford debut was cut short by an alternator problem on the final stage. "Dani drove the perfect rally for us," said Wilson, "and obviously we were very sad for him that he retired so close to the finish. This was a one-off drive, though. We have no plans for Dani to be back in the car again this season." There were suggestions in Argentina that Sordo, who was contracted to do the full 2012 World Rally Championship season with Prodrive's Mini programme before this was reduced, could be drafted into the team again later this year for selected asphalt rounds, but Wilson denied this. "Jari-Matti is our nominated driver for this year, so we can't change him and Petter [Solberg] is our other driver," said Wilson. "Why would we change either of those two? We wouldn't and so it's not going to happen."
