Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira could be one of the players moved on from the club this summer after failing to impress Mikel Arteta in training, according to reports.

The 23-year-old found game time hard to come by at the Emirates Stadium in the season just gone. After returning from groin surgery in February he played just 54 minutes of Premier League football.

His last start for the team came way back in November in the Carabao Cup fourth round defeat against West Ham United. He had to settle for cameos from the bench since then as the Gunners continued their challenge for the Premier League title.

According to The Athletic, Vieira’s lack of game time has come from his performances in training not impressing enough to see him climb up the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium. He is also named as one of the players who could leave the club in the summer, although there could be another move that stops that happening.

It is added that Vieira’s status in the transfer window may change if academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe is sold and a replacement is not bought in. Selling both midfielders in the summer window would then leave Arteta short on options going into the new season.

Who Arsenal opt to sell if it comes between Smith Rowe and Vieira in the summer is still to be seen. Any sale of Smith Rowe would be seen as pure profit in terms of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which would come as an extra boost to the Gunners.

Vieira has three years remaining on his contract with the club, meaning that Arsenal could get a decent fee. They may however settle for a loss on the £34 million they paid Porto for the midfielder in the summer of 2022.
