Raphael Borges Rodrigues has made his long anticipated comeback from injury with a run out in Coventry City’s Under-21s.

The winger joined the Sky Blues in the summer from Australian A-League side Macarthur FC but suffered a thigh strain on his non-competitive debut against Port Vale in pre-season and hasn’t been seen in a game since, having suffered a set-back at one stage of his rehabilitation.

But the 21-year-old started against Barnsley Under-21s at the CBS Arena on Tuesday lunchtime, getting through 65 minutes. He was deployed wide right in a 4-3-3 formation, during which time he had one shot which was saved by the opposition goalkeeper.

The visitors took a 2-0 lead into the break but City battled back in the second half with Joe McCallum scoring in the 69th minute to reduce the deficit and again four minutes from time to secure a 2-2 draw.

The only other senior player involved was Fabio Tavares, who was also withdrawn with Raphael just after the hour, and replaced by a triallist striker. It's expected that Raphael will build up his match minutes to become more robust in further development squad games to get him ready for first team consideration under a new head coach.
