Phil Jones and four other players reportedly no longer have a place in the Manchester United first-team dressing room after the summer’s spending.

United have spent big this summer to try to get lift-off on manager Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Old Trafford. After a dismal end to last season, it looked as if the only was up for the club.

Two defeats to start the season tested that theory, though, until the win over Liverpool sprung a reaction.

Indeed, Man Utd have now won three Premier League matches in a row. And six new signings including Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia have settled in well.

Although, a report from The Sun now talks of a knock-on effect of the summer spending on United’s Carrington training complex.

Centre-back Phil Jones, who has been pushed further down the pecking order after Martinez’s arrival, supposedly no longer has a place in the senior dressing room.

The first-team dressing room at the Red Devils’ training ground can only hold 24 players. That means Jones’ fellow centre-backs Axel Tuanzebe and Teden Mengi will also move to United’s Under-23 dressing room instead.

Left-back Brandon Williams is now the third choice in his area following Malacia arriving to compete with Luke Shaw.

Williams has therefore also lost his place in the senior dressing room, The Sun adds.

Finally, Eriksen’s arrival as a free agent means young midfielder Shola Shoretire is also moving to United’s Under-23 dressing room.

Man Utd want to continue strong run

United boss Erik ten Hag is hoping his updated cohort of 24 core players can stay fit to try and build their momentum.

Three wins in a row is a strong sign of progress, but a stern test awaits on Sunday as United face Arsenal.

Man Utd will have to put together all the things they have learnt in the past three weeks – plus added extras – to get a result against the Gunners.

Martinez has formed an exciting bond with Raphael Varane at the back, the pair keeping successive clean sheets.

Further forward, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have impressed with key contributions.

And new winger signing Antony, who has cost £84million from Ajax, could yet push his fellow attackers on more.
