Former Champ Fabricio Werdum Faces Ben Rothwell at UFC 203

A mere two weeks after losing the heavyweight title, Fabricio Werdum already has his next fight booked.

Werdum (20-6-1) will return at UFC 203 on Sept. 10 in Cleveland to face Ben Rothwell (36-10), a top contender who is also coming off of a loss. The UFC announced the fight during Sunday night's UFC Fight Night 88 telecast on FOX Sports 1.

Having won the interim championship November of 2014 by defeating Mark Hunt, and then beating Cain Velasquez to unify the belts in June of 2015, Werdum lost the belt at UFC 198 earlier this month. Stipe Miocic knocked Werdum out with a single punch on May 14, ending the former champion's six-fight winning streak. He will make his first defense at UFC 203 against Alistair Overeem, headlining the card in his hometown.

Werdum, of course, is hoping that a victory would quickly put him in place to try and win the belt back.

Rothwell was on a four-fight run that included a win against Overeem before he lost to Junior dos Santos at UFC Fight Night 86 on April 10 in Zagreb, Croatia. A win over Werdum would go a long way toward regaining the momentum that he lost in the fight with dos Santos.
