Former Chelsea, Tottenham player Poyet SACKED by Bordeaux after astonishing rant at owners

Gus Poyet has been sacked by Bordeaux after accusing the owners of selling a player without his knowledge.

The former Sunderland manager only took charge of the Ligue 1 side in January, but has lasted just one match into the new season.

Poyet, 50, was left incensed as he claimed the club sold striker Gaetan Laborde just hours before a crucial Europa League qualifier.

And he was relinquished of his duties on Friday morning after the remarkable outburst, in which he said he didn’t realise the forward was missing until he turned up to training.

After his sacking, L’Equipe reported the Bordeaux team refused to train for up to an hour afterwards in protest of the decision.

The club did beat FC Marioupoul 2-1 on Thursday night, but that did not stop the former Chelsea player from unloading at the owners after the match.

He said: “No I am not happy, It is one of my worst days at the club. What the club have done with Gaetan Laborde is a disgrace.

“I think we have to stop here. I told the club not to let him leave until we had bought someone else. They have not recruited and they let Laborde go.

“I arrived at 11.35am. Laborde was not here. He was in Montpellier. Nobody told me anything.”

Bordeaux president Stephane Martin said last night: “I am not yet aware of what he has said. Everyone is free to do what they want. If he wants to resign, we will discuss it with him.

“But I have difficulties in understanding this. He was kept up to date with everything. I am quite surprised with such an impulsive reaction over the departure of a player which had been anticipated for some time. It is maybe a context.”
