Former Man Utd chief to land Rangers CEO role as Malcolm Offord takes vow of silence over chairman appointment
Former Manchester United supremo Patrick Stewart is set to be named Rangers' new CEO, according to a report.
It's all change behind the scenes at Ibrox where Nils Koppen has just been named the new sporting director at Ibrox. It's expected they're close to naming a new permanent chairman and chief executive and it's being reported by the Rangers Review that Stewart, who spent 14 years behind the scenes at United, is poised to land the latter position. He'll take over from James Bisgrove after his exit to Saudi Arabia in the summer.
It's also reported meanwhile that Malcolm Offord is set to be named the new permanent chairman and the same outlet say the two are poised to link up at Ibrox. Record Sport approached Lord Offord of Garvel about the story this afternoon before the story became public earlier this afternoon but he refused to comment at that time.
The 60-year-old, who is currently serving in the House of Lords, refused to comment when he was asked about becoming the new powerbroker at Ibrox. Offord has previously been involved in rugby and but in recent years He has a background in equity but has been a prominent politician and was the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department of Business and Trade from April 2023 to July this year.
Rangers have been looking for a permanent chairman since John Bennett stepped down for health reasons. The Ibrox board have been working on their hierarchy and the new chairman and chief executive and expect to have both confirmed before their upcoming Annual General Meeting. The incoming chairman is already involved in the interviews for the new chief executive.
