Former team-mate Nani has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Man Utd amid reports he wants to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Ronaldo has reportedly been unconvinced by the Red Devils’ transfer business so far this summer, while he would also like to be playing in the Champions League next season.

There have been multiple rumours about his potential destination but the lack of concrete interest suggests he is more likely to stay at Man Utd this season.

Time for Cristiano Ronaldo to dig for humility and consider Manchester United return

Ronaldo has reportedly received a £2m-a-week offer from an unnamed Saudi Arabian club, while Chelsea were understood to be the main Premier League candidates for his signature before deciding against making an offer.

Nani has revealed that he made contact with Ronaldo when he was on holiday but he refused to talk to him because he was “busy”.

And Ronaldo’s former Man Utd team-mate hopes that he changes his mind and remains at Old Trafford this summer.

Nani said: “I hope (he will stay). He’s an important player and a player who always makes a difference. I hope he’s in a good mood to help the club.

“I tried to talk to him but when he’s on vacation he doesn’t answer the phone. He said, ‘I’m so busy now, we’ll talk soon’.”

Nani made his non-competitive debut for Melbourne Victory against Man Utd on Friday night as he came off the bench as a late substitute.

“It was an emotional moment for me,” Nani added. “I hope the club can get back to where they belong.”

Meanwhile, former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has speculated that Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag “feels more comfortable” without Ronaldo – who has missed their pre-season tour due to ‘family reasons’ –  in his squad.

Redknapp told the Daily Mirror: “Some managers don’t want big superstars. They’re much happier managing a team without the egos and Ronaldo is one of the biggest in world football,” Redknapp added.

“Maybe he [Ten Hag] feels more comfortable without him as it’s not like he’s come from a big background. He’s come from Ajax in Holland, not really yet managed at the top level.

“Now suddenly he’s going to be working with one one of the greatest ever players. Maybe he might feel I’m better off without him. He may feel ‘I can come in, get my message across, say what I want and work how I want to press. He [Ronaldo] may not fit into that.”
