Former NASCAR, IndyCar driver John Andretti fighting Stage 4 cancer

The racing community has reached out with support for John Andretti following news of his battle with cancer.

Former NASCAR and IndyCar driver John Andretti revealed this week that he is fighting Stage 4 colon cancer.

Andretti, 54, told WTHR Indianapolis reporter Dave Calabro he is undergoing chemo treatments and faces surgeries in June.

Andretti, who raced 17 seasons and won two races in NASCAR's top series, also made five starts in the Indianapolis 500.

Members of the racing community reached out via social media to express their support for the popular Andretti.

"One of THE nicest guys. Pulling for you John!!," tweeted Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Andretti made 393 NASCAR Cup starts before retiring in 2010.
