As things stand, the two Brazilian stars are without a club after Marcelo was released from Real Madrid and Dani Alves called time on his time at Barcelona.

In his 16 years at Santiago Bernabeu, Marcelo won more trophies than any other player in the club's history.

The defender is now being chased by a number of clubs in Europe, including Serie A winners AC Milan who are looking to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new campaign.

Alves, in contrast, left Barcelona following his second spell at Camp Nou. The full-back is also being chased by a number of clubs, including Brazilian outfit Flamengo. Both players are heading towards the latter end of their careers, with Marcelo hitting the age of 34 and Alves turning 39 last May. Nevertheless, both men are still dreaming of World Cup participation this winter and need to be playing at a high level in order to secure their spot in Qatar.

One option, according to Brazilian publication OUL Esporte, could be for both men to join Real Valladolid - a club owned by former Brazil, Real Madrid and Barcelona great, Ronaldo.

Valladolid won promotion to La Liga last season after finishing second in the Segunda Division. The club were relegated from the top tier in the 2020/21 campaign, and Ronaldo is keen to strengthen the squad as he bids to avoid the drop in the team's first season back. Ronaldo became the majority owner of the club back in September 2018 after purchasing a 51% stake.
