Formula 1 - Ferrari announces new car name - as chosen by fans

Ferrari has announced that its 2014 Formula 1 car will be called the F14 T after holding a fan vote to choose the name.

A total of 1,123,741 votes were cast in the contest on Ferrari's official website.

F14 T edged out F166 Turbo by 1.7 per cent of the vote.

Other options included F14 Maranello, F14 Scuderia and F616.

"It's nice to know the name of the car has been chosen by our fans," said team boss Stefano Domenicali.

"The amazing number of votes shows just how popular Ferrari has always been and this will be, as always, a further impetus for us to do well this year."

Ferrari will unveil the F14 T on Saturday afternoon in an online presentation.

Fernando Alonso is joining by returnee Kimi Raikkonen in Ferrari's driver line-up this year, with the team optimistic that its recent technical restructuring will pay off after several seasons of trailing Red Bull.
