Formula 1 - Pic gets five-place gearbox grid penalty

Charles Pic had to begin the German Grand Prix from the back of the grid after being handed a five-place grid penalty for changing a part in his gearbox.

The Caterham driver had qualified 19th at the Nurburgring, but his team replaced a gearbox layshaft on his car ahead of the race.

As the part was not in the list of components that can be replaced without a breach of the rules, the stewards subsequently moved him back down the grid.

Pic's penalty meant that countryman Jules Bianchi's Marussia led the back-of-the-field pack away.
