Formula 1 - Red Bull star Ricciardo stripped of podium place

Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo's has been stripped of his first Formula One podium finish at his home Grand Prix on Sunday after he was found to have "consistently" exceeded permitted fuel consumption during the race.


Ricciardo finished second behind Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg at Albert Park but was soon put under investigation over the rate at which his care was using fuel.

"During the race car number 03 has exceeded consistently the maximum allowed fuel flow of 100 kg/h," said technical delegate Jo Bauer, who referred the matter to the stewards.

The stewards then had little choice but to expel the Red Bull driver from the race results after what iwas a clear breach of the technical regulations.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner and several other representatives from the team met with stewards, but to no avail.

McLaren's Danish rookie Kevin Magnussen now goes in the record books with a second place in his maiden F1 race, while his team-mate Jenson Button is promoted to third.
