Rangers Fan View: Four things we learned as Hearts were broken

It was a turbulent week for Rangers following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha. However, the show went on as we went to Murrayfield on Saturday and convincingly beat Hearts 3-1.

There are good players in this team

Pedro Caixinha has gone. Although, in his defence, he did say he would leave the squad in better shape than it was when he took over. He was right. Yesterday showed that. We were without Cardoso, Alves, Dorrans and Wallace, who would be in our team if they were fit. It shows that we don’t have as bad a squad as many people like to make out.

Someone who has been mostly a bench player this season, Jason Holt, was outstanding. It was up there with one of his best games in a Rangers shirt and I feel like he was the catalyst to the victory over his old club. His energy was superb, he got stuck in and his use of the ball made us tick on the day. It was his lovely piece of footwork that led to Kenny Miller finding Windass for the third.

He really impressed me and if he can perform like he did at Murrayfield, there is no reason why he cannot force his way into the team on a regular basis.

Alfredo Morelos works better in a front two

Unfortunately for us, the little Colombian is going through a scoring drought at the moment. However, he never ever hides. He did excellently well to hold off Berra and find Miller for our first goal. Frankly, If Miller had the same technical ability as his partner we could have been level before we were – but his pass was short.

There is no question that Miller has been poor this season. However, in this game he took his goals well and after a few games out of the side, you can see the positive impact he has on Morelos’ game. I feel going forward that if he is to rediscover his goalscoring form he will have to play as part of a twin strikeforce. Furthermore, he really helped the team during the game with his excellent hold-up play and his willingness to occupy defenders and make unselfish runs. We have a gem in this boy.

Graeme Murty has the respect of everyone at the club

Murty deserves every bit of credit he gets for this victory. His attitude towards the situation was spot on and his team obviously respect him. In addition to that, he seems to be a really good motivator and that showed in this game. The players worked their socks off for him and managed to deliver the result. The man is a credit to our club.

However, I wouldn’t consider him for the managerial position as I feel he’s doing a grand job at bringing through the youth players. Thankfully, Ross McCrorie is one who he has helped to nurture and the boy put in an excellent display yesterday. Hopefully, we manage to keep him on at the club as it appears he has the bug for management after his spells in charge.

We made the right decision by not paying through the nose for Jamie Walker

Jamie Walker: everyone screamed for him in the summer. “Pay Hearts the £1m,” some fans on social media said. Not on that performance. That’s twice I have watched him play against us this season and twice he has been anonymous. That being said, I would take him in the summer to add depth to the squad but overall, I was really not impressed with him at all.
