Everton are closing in on the signing of Brighton’s Neal Maupay, with the striker reportedly undergoing a medical at the club.

Everton have struggled in front of goal at the beginning of the season. Indeed, they have scored two goals in their three Premier League games so far.

The sale of Richarlison and an injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin have not helped matters. The Toffees have been left with just one fit senior striker, in Salomon Rondon.

Frank Lampard is clearly keen on adding another striker to his side. In the press conference leading up to his side’s game against Brentford, he said a new signing up top “will happen” as quoted by Liverpool Echo.

The manager is clearly not happy with the Toffees’ offensive output so far.

It seems Lampard has gotten his wish, too. Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Brighton striker Maupay is having a medical ahead of a move to Everton.

The forward was being courted by newly-promoted sides Fulham and Nottingham Forest. However, it appears that he was more keen on a move to Merseyside, thanks to a conversation with Lampard.

Di Marzio reports that Maupay will sign a three-year deal at Goodison Park. Everton have the option of of adding a fourth season, too.

It is unclear how much the Toffees will be paying for the forward.

However, recent reports have stated that Brighton wanted £14million for Maupay – that would match what they paid Brentford for him in 2019.

Maupay signing set to ease Everton problems

The signing of Maupay should help Everton sort out the problems they are currently facing. Their struggles to find the back of the net have been clear so far this season.

They have actually had Anthony Gordon – who has scored four senior goals – start up top for two of their three league games so far.

Having somebody who knows how to find the net should slowly sort their issues out. Maupay has scored at least eight goals on every season he has played in the Premier League so far.

As such, that experience will be a valuable asset for Everton, as they look to climb out of the tough spot they find themselves in. When Calvert-Lewin returns, having two capable strikers should allow them to perform better, and win games.
