Frank Lampard’s arrival at Derby should reignite the Rams’ promotions dreams once more, according to fans of the Midlands club.

Former BT Sport pundit Lampard, 39, was announced as Gary Rowett’s replacement on Thursday morning.

Rowett, now in charge at Stoke, took the Championship side to a sixth-place finish before being beaten in the play-off semi-finals by Fulham.

Yahoo editor and Rams fan Chris Parsons, who produces Derby County podcast Steve Bloomer’s Washing, believes Lampard’s arrival is an ‘exciting’ appointment for the club.

He said: “Derby have worked their way through several managers in recent seasons, and the appointment of unproven Lampard is certainly a bold move by owner Mel Morris.

“Although Lampard has no managerial experience, he’ll be expected to fill a team with young talent and ideally challenge for the Championship play-offs once again.

“Being managed by a recently-retired Premier League legend will thrust Derby into the national spotlight – but such is Lampard’s standing the game, that most fans (except those who support Forest) appear want him to succeed.

“Whatever happens, Lampard’s arrival has captured the imagination of Derby’s fanbase again after play-off disappointment and the departure of Gary Rowett, and could herald a new era of excitement at Pride Park.”
