Frank Lampard admits that leading scorer Haji Wright is not expected to be back fit for Coventry City heading into the busy festive period.

The Sky Blues face Hull City at home and Portsmouth away before their Boxing Day fixture at the CBS Arena against Plymouth Argyle, managed by Frank Lampard’s old England teammate Wayne Rooney.

Goalkeeper Ben Wilson is City’s only other senior player currently sidelined along with Wright, but asked if either have any chance of returning to fitness and being involved for the Christmas schedule, Lampard told CoventryLive: “Well, Ben’s definitely improving and was starting to get a bit more active yesterday (Thurs), but there are still fundamental parts of training that he can’t do yet, so we are being careful with that one and I wouldn’t quite expect so for the festive period.

“And with Haji Wright, it’s pretty similar really. In terms of do we expect him back in the next two or three games? No, because he’s not on the training pitch yet. So that’s one where we will have to wait and see.”

The head coach admits it’s frustrating not having the USA star available at a time when he’s trying to get results to lift confidence in the camp since coming into the club.

“I am obviously very keen to get him back because I understand his importance to the squad,” he said. “He’s a big player for us but I just have to work with what we have got now. We have got talent, we have got options so let’s try and get results, and Haji will be there soon for us as well, but as for these next two or three games, no.”
