Frank Lampard warned his Chelsea players their Bramall Lane display will be remembered during his summer rebuild.

Lampard was alarmed at Sheffield United voices being heard over his team’s during the defeat which could see them slip outside the top four by their next game.

“I learnt a lot. I won’t forget that,” said the Chelsea manager, who has signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner for next season . “I’m not concerned today about the top four.

“Of course I want to get there but today I’m concerned about how we’ve performed and I learnt a lot about that. I’m not thinking ‘we could be fifth or third or fourth’.

“The only thing that matters now is that we fight for the top four and we are still in that race because of how we have been this season. We have to put this game away very quickly.

“There is no crowd at the moment so you can hear every voice and all I could hear were Sheffield United voices. They had more voice and more personality and that reflected in the way they played.

“You don’t want to say you’re patient, we’re all striving for the answer right now but at the moment, where we’re at with the games we’ve got left this season, we have to look forward because the details of this game will only be negative and we need to be positive.”

David McGoldrick scored his first Premier League goals either side of Oli McBurnie’s header, keeping them within sight of the top five, although Chris Wilder is refusing to discuss Europe and his players are following him.

“If I say anything else I'll get a b******ing from the gaffer,” McGoldrick said. “The results have proved why we are where we are. We've played 35 games and the points don't lie.”

Wilder added: “The game finds you out if you get carried away or take your foot off the gas. But the players are enjoying the challenge.”
