Fred thinks the media were deliberately “trying to harm” the Man Utd dressing room last season with their “fake news”.

There were reports of discontent, cliques and a ‘toxic’ atmosphere in the dressing room last season as a number of senior players jostled for leadership.

Speaking at the end of April, former Man Utd midfielder Paul Scholes said that Jesse Lingard told him during a “quick chat” that “the dressing room is just a disaster.”

Man Utd finished a disastrous 2021/22 season in sixth place, 13 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham and 35 points behind champions Manchester City.

And now Fred has urged his team-mates to stick together this season to “minimise” the amount of leaks coming out of the dressing room.

“Manchester United are a huge club, one of the biggest in the world so there’ll always be rumours about the dressing room and numerous other things and we need to minimise this,” Fred said in an interview with ESPN.

“Unfortunately a lot of fake news comes out in the media trying to harm our dressing room. We weren’t doing well in the league.

“We have to protect ourselves from this, remaining strong and most importantly supporting your teammates every day. Last season we weren’t good enough in everything we did.

“It’s behind us now. We now have to think about the future, next season. We need to forget about last season, identify the errors and not repeat them.”

And Bruno Fernandes has been impressed by the intensity of training sessions under new Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag

“No, it’s been pretty intense,” Bruno told the club’s official website. “He likes intense training, reactions when you lose the ball. He likes everyone to run.

“He’s been really good. Everyone is enjoying [it], obviously. Everyone gets really tired at the end of the training but that’s what we have to do. We have to be like that at the end of the training, but then you know the training was really good.

“As I said, we have to do the hard work because, if we do it now, then we will be fit for the beginning of the season. We all know the first games of the season are strange, but we want to be the ones that will be winning. We have to do the maximum that we can and what the coach and all the staff ask us to do.”
