Inspired by true events, Kindling follows the story of a group of young men who return to their hometown to turn their terminally ill friend’s final summer into a celebration of life, love and friendship. Facing mortality, Sid (Sex Education‘s Somner) wants to create a legacy and be remembered forever. With his obsession for astronomy and the atmosphere, he comes up with a plan. He gives each boy a category — love, home, friends, family and location — and asks them to find an item that connects them all with the word they’ve been given. Together, they’ll burn the items on a gigantic fire, making the particles and his memory a part of the atmosphere forever.

Written and directed by Connor O’Hara in his feature helming debut, Kindling will hit digital and DVD platforms on October 3. The cast also includes Conrad Khan, Wilson Mbomio and Tara Fitzgerald.

Jamie Gamache and Mark Foligno are the producers, and the executive producers for Roundtable Entertainment are Dominic Ianno, Sarah Donnelly, Amorette Jones, and Jason Resnick.

Objects profiles three people who have grown profound emotional connections to things they came upon, accidentally, at pivotal moments in their lives and have held onto ever since. The film features NPR correspondent and former Radiolab co-host Robert Krulwich, who has kept a clump of grass for 50 years; author Heidi Julavits, who has preserved the sweater of a dead French actress; and graphic designer Rick Rawlins, who has safeguarded a 40-year-old sugar egg for four decades. Their interwoven stories challenge the notion that holding onto things is inherently negative and ultimately reveals how the act of preserving things can help us hold on to our place in the world, maintain a sense of self and identity and perhaps even stave off the inevitable toll of time.

The documentary also will debut October 3 on digital platforms. Here are the trailers for Kindling and Objects:
