Frenkie de Jong is simply not interested in a move to the Premier League, according to a report that has revealed where the Manchester United target could go instead.

De Jong has been a priority target for Manchester United since their appointment of former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag. In an ideal world, the Dutch tactician would want to work with his compatriot again.

Manchester United need to strengthen their midfield after the exits of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba. They identified De Jong as a gettable target thanks to his current club Barcelona needing funds.

Indeed, the two clubs have reportedly agreed the details of a transfer fee for De Jong to move from Camp Nou to Old Trafford. However, there is a third party that must agree to any deal – and that is the player himself.

In that regard, De Jong has been extremely reluctant to sign for Manchester United. His contract with Barcelona still has four years left to run on it.

But they are still working on offloading him. Reports have suggested that his agents are now encouraging Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain to bid for him.

Seeing De Jong move to Chelsea – who have Champions League football on offer – would be a particular blow to Man Utd. But the latest updates from Spain suggest that move may not materialise either.

According to Diario Sport, De Jong does not want to play in the Premier League. He has already rejected chances to do so when he left Ajax in 2019.

Although Sport suggest a “sensational offer” from Chelsea could lead him to London, he has ruled out Man Utd. Besides, both clubs may miss out to a destination he would prefer.

The report claims De Jong would see Bayern Munich as a better fit for his style if they came calling. Furthermore, they are based closer to his home country and are genuine contenders for the Champions League.

Another factor in Bayern’s favour is their pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt. The Bundesliga champions are hoping to sign De Jong’s former Ajax teammate – and fellow Netherlands international – from Juventus.

Frenkie de Jong better for Bayern – but deal unlikely

De Jong would consider reuniting with De Ligt, seemingly more so than their old manager Ten Hag.

Bayern could be a good move for De Jong, given all the factors above. At the age of 25, they could provide him with his next springboard.

And if his heart is more towards there than Manchester United or Chelsea, it would make even more sense. The Premier League suitors should be drafting up other ideas to target.

As things stand, though, a deal for Bayern to sign De Jong would be difficult. Their relationship with Barcelona has not been the best during the Robert Lewandowski saga, despite the two clubs eventually reaching an agreement.

Hence, Sport now believe De Jong will continue with Barcelona. He retains a good relationship with head coach Xavi and should compete for his place.
