Jeremie Boga’s late goal rescued a youthful Chelsea’s blushes as they scraped a 1-1 draw against a robust RZ Pellets WAC side in Klagenfurt.

The young forward danced through the Austrian defence before slotting a lovely finish into the bottom corner in the 83rd minute to draw Chelsea level.

A relatively dull first half was lit up briefly by some silky Chelsea football. Marco van Ginkel clipped a ball up to Patrick Bamford who was able to flick it on to the onrushing Isaiah Brown but his one-one-one was well smothered by the keeper who was able to block the shot.

The second half saw the Austrian side come out all guns blazing and took the lead in the 55th minute. Substitute Manuel Kerhe crossed to Max Friesacher who headed it back to Silvio who couldn’t miss from two yards out despite Petr Cech’s best efforts.

The Blues youngsters huffed and puffed and eventually managed to draw level when Jeremie Boga skipped through the Austrian defence and finished well into the bottom corner.

Chelsea will be pleased with an injury-free 90 minutes though will be looking for their World Cup stars to return sooner rather than later to add quality and intensity to a clearly already well-organised unit.

16’ – ANTICIPATION – Bamford sees a poor back-header before it happens and latches on to it. He rounds the keeper but takes the ball too far wide to angle his shot back on target.

23’ – CHANCE MISSED – Brown flicked the ball down the line for Filipe Luis who crossed early to Bamford. He had the awareness to flick a header to Salah on the edge of the area but his tame first time shot is saved easily.

35’ – GREAT SAVE – Van Ginkel clips a ball up to Bamford who manages to head it on to Brown in behind the defence but his shot is well saved by the on-rushing Kofler in goal.

55’ – GOAL! - A great cross from Kerhe is headed back from the far post to Friesacher who lays it to Silvio. He then smashes it in from close range despite the best efforts of Cech.

70’ – ALMOST TWO! - Great cross from Palla who finds Silvio in the middle. He gets his header on target but Cech is able to tip it over.

83’ – LEVELLER! - Absolutely brilliant run through the middle of the pitch. boga plays it to Romeu who gives it back to him. Under pressure he keeps his balance and finishes well into the corner.

Can any of Chelsea’s youngster step up to the first team this season? Marco van Ginkel was the pick of the bunch with an all-round good performance. However it was Jeremie Boga who caught the eye with an electric goal and some nice touches and passes for such a young player.

Jeremie Boga, Chelsea – Came on at half time and provided a huge threat to the Austrian defence which wasn’t visible in the first half. Made lots of driving runs and caused all kinds of problems with his intelligent movement and passing. Scored a lovely goal as well.
