Thomas Tuchel has conceded that “everything is missing” with Chelsea at the moment after they “struggled” in the loss against Dinamo Zagreb.

Chelsea have been given a pretty favourable Champions League group on paper as they are due to face Dinamo Zagreb, AC Milan and Red Bull Salzburg.

AC Milan looks to be the hardest game after they won the Serie A title last season.

You would argue that Dinamo Zagreb are Chelsea’s weakest rivals in Group E but they fell to defeat against the Croatian side in their opener on Tuesday evening.

Mislav Orsic scored the only goal of the game before the break as he beat Kepa Arrizabalaga after racing away from summer signing Wesley Fofana.

Chelsea pushed for an equaliser in the second half. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looked to have scored on his debut for the club but he was ruled to be offside.

Reece James caused Dinamo Zagreb problems late on and he came closest to scoring near the end as he struck the post with his strike.

The game finished 1-0 and this is less than an ideal start as Chelsea look to earn themselves a spot in the knockout stages of the competition.

The Blues host Red Bull Salzburg at Stamford Bridge next Wednesday in their second group game.

After the loss to Dinamo Zagreb, Tuchel stated that there is “too much to analyse” with Chelsea at the moment:

“Of course I’m frustrated; there’s too much to analyse, I’m a part of it, and we are clearly not where we need to be,” Tuchel told BT Sport.

“At the moment everything is missing. I need to find solutions for the next match, of course.”

When asked if his players have lost confidence, he added: “It seems like this, it’s hard to argue against it.

“You can analyse it like this, of course.

“At half-time, we made some changes, we encouraged them, told them to play with more emotions, play tougher and to step up.

“But it’s obviously hard at the moment for us. This has nothing to do with a worry – it’s a reality.

“It’s underperformance from us, a bit the same story as always.

“We had an okay start, we don’t finish our half-chances, we don’t feel it when the game is already there to put to bed in the first 15-20 minutes.

“Then we concede one counter-attack, which is far too easy, and from there we struggle.”
