Fulham vs Tottenham - LIVE!

Harry Kane became Tottenham Hotspur’s joint all-time record goalscorer with the winner in his side’s 1-0 victory at Fulham. Tottenham had been second-best in the first half at Craven Cottage but Kane produced a trademark finish on the stroke of half-time to notch his 266th goal for the Londoners.

Kane’s effort drew him level with Jimmy Greaves whose 266 goals came in 379 games. England skipper Kane reached the total in 415 appearances.

Fulham were the better side until Kane’s right-footed finish with Harrison Reed, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Willian all going close to giving the hosts the lead. Kane even had the chance to break the record after halftime but headed straight at Fulham keeper Bernd Leno. Victory revived Tottenham’s Premier League top-four hopes, leaving them in fifth place with 36 points, three behind Newcastle United and Manchester United who have both played a game less.

It has been a week to wonder about Harry Kane‘s future following reports of Manchester United’s interest in a summer deal for the striker, followed by the news that the England captain is open to signing a new Tottenham contract - provided certain conditions are met.

Spurs are still hoping they will never have to face life without Kane until he eventually hangs up his boots, perhaps to pursue a career in NFL or a retirement on the golf course, and he provided a scarcely-needed reminder of his importance in Monday’s 1-0 win over Fulham.

Kane’s magnificent goal in first-half stoppage-time - a trademark low finish from the edge of the box - moved him level with Jimmy Greaves’ as Spurs’ all-time leading scorer on 266 and lifted the gloom around the club after a dreadful week on and off the pitch.

One away from another milestone...

FT: Fulham 0-1 Tottenham

22:18 , Matt Verri

And there’s the final whistle - Spurs earn the win they badly needed.

Not a great game at all, particularly in that second-half, but Tottenham did what they had to. Controlled it well and that’s a rare clean sheet for Conte’s side.

They close the gap to Manchester United in fourth to three points, though they’ve played a game more.

22:17 , Matt Verri

90+7 mins: On we go, into the final few seconds now.

This time Fulham do go long, Mitrovic flicks it on and it almost falls for Vinicius. Robinson’s cross is then charged down by Kane.

22:15 , Matt Verri

90+4 mins: Still Fulham pass it around at the back. Got to be time to lump it up for Mitrovic.

Apparently not, they’re remaining patient. Solomon eventually dinks it in for Palhinha, couldn’t swivel with it and Spurs can clear.

22:11 , Matt Verri

90+1 mins: Six minutes added on.

Maybe a bit more than that too, because first Robinson and now Hojbjerg go down. This match might never finish.

22:09 , Matt Verri

88 mins: Willian and Decordova-Reid the two Fulham players going off, so Mitrovic will limp on.

Got to imagine there will be a fair bit of added time coming up. Solomon with a curling strike for the hosts, Lloris tips it behind. Was going wide.

22:06 , Matt Verri

85 mins: Mitrovic down after being caught with Dier, he’s stayed down too and hasn’t moved. Not what Fulham need.

Dier trod on his foot and it’s clearly a painful one. Vinicius is coming on for Fulham, the former Tottenham man. So too Wilson.

22:03 , Matt Verri

82 mins: Cairney fires a cross into the box, Pereira turns away from it and ends up bouncing the ball off his back into the grateful arms of Lloris. Not sure that was plan.

Been really poor from Fulham since the break, you’d have to say. Offered nothing at all, on the whole.

22:00 , Matt Verri

80 mins: Decent chance for kane, as Dier nods it down to him in the box. Fired wide.

Another Fulham change, Solomon on for Tete. He’s got ten minutes plus stoppage-time to have an impact.

21:58 , Matt Verri

78 mins: All very patient in possession from Fulham, they need a bit of urgency from somewhere.

Also need Diop not to pass it straight to Kulusevski under no pressure. Spurs break, and Kane is chopped down by Palhinha who is already on a booking

The yellow card comes out... for Bentancur who is demanding a red card a bit too keenly.

21:56 , Matt Verri

75 mins: First bit of service Mitrovic has had in a long time.

Cairney whips a first-time cross into the box, Mitrovic gets up well at the back post but loops a header wide.

Conte turns to his bench, Richarlison on for Son.

21:53 , Matt Verri

73 mins: More like it, nicely worked out to the right and Tete’s cross is charged down. Corner for the hosts.

Swung in deep, Ream can’t win the header. Cairney keeps it in play, steps on the ball as he does so and loses his balance as he swings a leg at it. That was a mess.

21:52 , Matt Verri

71 mins: Romero into the book for a high foot on Mitrovic, far too rush from the Spurs defender.

Royal gets out well to stop a cross from Robinson coming into the box, Tottenham continue to look relatively comfortable seeing this out.

Dan Kilpatrick at Craven Cottage

21:50 , Matt Verri

Spurs need a cushion, particularly given their hideous defensive record this season, but Conte should be relatively happy with the state of this game.

His side have taken the sting out of the contest and should be afforded more space in the final 20 minutes as Fulham push forward.

21:48 , Matt Verri

68 mins: Willian gets to the byline, drills a low cross and it’s hacked away. Dier plays it straight out of play, Fulham starting to build some pressure again.

Conte very animated on the touchline, that energy that was largely missing against Arsenal and Man City is back.

21:46 , Matt Verri

65 mins: Cairney on for Reed, Silva had to do something.

A loose pass bobbles past Dercordova-Reid, home fans starting to get frustrated with what’s on show.

21:43 , Matt Verri

63 mins: Fulham can’t get anything going at the moment, Tottenham have done a really good job of controlling this match in the last five minutes or so.

Pereira looks to break for the hosts, goes down after a collision from Hojbjerg. Very hopeful appeals for a free-kick.

21:40 , Matt Verri

60 mins: Mitrovic in behind, fires the ball across the face of goal but nobody there in a white shirt.

At the other end, Kane drifts out wide and wins another corner for Spurs. Again it’s taken short before coming in, Fulham eventually able to clear. Good spell for the visitors.

Dan Kilpatrick at Craven Cottage

21:39 , Matt Verri

There’s more spring in Spurs’ step in the second half, suggesting Conte’s side may have got their habitual bad 45 minutes out of the way already.

Kane thought he’d made history with a close range header but Leno made a fantastic save.

21:38 , Matt Verri

57 mins: Romero with a nutmeg to get past Willian, right in front of the away end. Kulusevski then wins a corner for the visitors.

Taken short, eventually whipped in to the back post. Davies nods it back across goal, Kane in the middle... BRILLIANT SAVE. Kane looked certain to scored, six yards out and completely free.

21:35 , Matt Verri

55 mins: Tottenham fans have been in fine voice all night, and for now at least they have something to cheer.

They’ll feel a lot more confident if their side can find a second goal, because that Spurs defence does not look entirely convincing.

21:32 , Matt Verri

52 mins: Dier stays down and needs some treatment after that clash of heads.

Eventually back up and on his feet, Fulham wasting little time in getting straight back on the attack. Romero lumps the ball straight out of play - file that under no-nonsense.

21:31 , Matt Verri

50 mins: Referee is surrounded by about eight white shirts, as he points for a goal-kick. Fulham convinced it should have been a corner as Palhinha and Dier challenged for the ball at the back post.

They’re right, Palhinha headed it onto the Spurs centre-back and over the bar. Referee has a word with captain Ream, telling him to get his team-mates back under control.

21:29 , Matt Verri

48 mins: Mitrovic lays the ball off to Willian in the box, takes too long to get the shot away.

Fulham keep it nicely, Willian clips a cross in and it’s headed out. Tottenham defence going to be under plenty of pressure over the next 40 minutes or so, you’d imagine.

21:27 , Matt Verri

46 mins: Dear me, Perisic with a high boot 35 seconds into the half and Fulham are appealing for a penalty.

Decordova-Reid is convinced. The referee is not. VAR swiftly moves on. Tottenham survive, that looked a bit clumsy from Perisic.

Back underway!

21:25 , Matt Verri

Up and running again at Craven Cottage.

Spurs have had plenty of strong second-half displays this season. They also had THAT showing last time out against Man City, which was... bad. Very, very bad.

21:25 , Matt Verri

Well, we have more technical issues.

Once again the referee is having problems hearing his colleagues. New batteries needed.

Looks like they might have turned it off and on again. All good.

Kane moves level

21:20 , Matt Verri

Harry Kane has matched Tottenham’s all-time record goalscorer of 266 goal, drawing level with club legend Jimmy Greaves.

The Spurs forward overtook Bobby Smith last February, and since then has continued his inevitable march to Greaves’ tally of 266 goals.

It’s over a decade since Kane scored his first Tottenham goal, coming off the bench in the Europa League against Shamrock Rovers in December 2011 and scoring late on.

Three times he has won the Premier League Golden Boot, with 199 of his 266 Spurs goals coming in the League. He has scored 15 times in the FA Cup, on seven occasions in the League Cup and 45 times in Europe.

Number 266 for Kane...

21:16 , Matt Verri

Dan Kilpatrick at Craven Cottage

21:10 , Matt Verri

Spurs were second best for most of the half but Kane’s quality is the difference so far, as it so often is.

The England captain is now level with Jimmy Greaves on 266 Spurs goals and will be eyeing the record in the second half.

HT: Fulham 0-1 Tottenham

21:08 , Matt Verri

And that’s half-time.

Kane not involved at all, hits a terrible free-kick and then delivers just before the break.

Plenty of positives for Fulham but they’re going to have to come from behind.

GOAL! Fulham 0-1 Tottenham | Harry Kane 45+1'

21:05 , Matt Verri

Match is really opening up, Fulham should break with Willian completely free on the left but Mitrovic doesn’t play the pass.

Kulusevski then gets to the byline and fires a low cross in, Ream puts it behind for a corner. Fulham initially clear, but here come Spurs again.

Kane on the edge of the box, drifts onto his right foot... AND SCORES! Brilliant, brilliant finish from 20 yards out.

21:03 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Ream brings Son just outside the area, free-kick given despite his very hopeful attempts to protest.

Kane and Perisic standing over it. It’s Kane, tries to go under the wall and it barely makes the wall. Didn’t catch that at all.

21:01 , Matt Verri

42 mins: Needless foul from Perisic, gifts Fulham a chance to put a dangerous ball into the box.

They do exactly that, brilliant delivery from Pereira, but it’s headed over the bar by Palhinha. Big chance in the six-yard box.

20:59 , Matt Verri

40 mins: Bit of a mess at the back from Fulham, Ream almost chips a lovely through ball to Kulusevski.

Robinson there to get his team-mate out of trouble, and then keeps his nerve to turn away from a couple of players on the edge of the box.

First attack in a while for Fulham at the other end, Willian fires straight at Lloris.

Dan Kilpatrick at Craven Cottage

20:58 , Matt Verri

Marginally better from Spurs in the last few minutes as they finally spend some time in the Fulham half.

But Son is a passenger again and is perhaps a little lucky to still be on the field after catching Tete with his studs.

20:57 , Matt Verri

38 mins: Fulham able to clear, but Dercodova-Reid then give away a cheap free-kick.

Hosts being pushed back a little now, Mitrovic unable to get involved as he was earlier in the half.

20:56 , Matt Verri

37 mins: Kulusevski drives down the right wing, looks to have overrun it but the ball bounces off the corner flag and back into his path.

Played inside to Emerson, goes for goal from a tight angle and Leno turns it behind. And Spurs will get another chance, Willian shanks a clearance out of play.

Perisic fires it into the near post, third corner coming up!

20:53 , Matt Verri

34 mins: Kane has had enough, takes matters into his own hands.

Picks the ball up five yards inside the Fulham half, turns and runs with it. Shrugs a couple of Fulham players off, lets fly from 25 yards out and it’s well over the bar.

Pretty much the first time he’s had the ball tonight, so he wasn’t particularly keen to let it go.

20:50 , Matt Verri

31 mins: A rare Spurs attack, ends with Kulusevski on the ground appealing for a penalty.

Son slides the ball through, Kulusevski takes a touch and Diop is swiftly across to get his body in the way. Definitely caught the Spurs man in the face with an elbow, painful one.

VAR not interested, but Kulusevski will need some treatment.

20:49 , Matt Verri

30 mins: Pereira sends a free-kick into the box, Ream’s flick-on loops up.

Diop competes for it at the back post, balls bounces around in the six-yard box but nobody there in a white shirt to take advantage.

20:47 , Matt Verri

28 mins: Mitrovic holding everything up, and he pings a great pass out to Decordova-Reid this time. Cross comes in, can’t quite pick out a team-mate though.

Spurs look to break, but Son puts an end to that with a bit of a lunge. Yellow card for the South Korean.

20:44 , Matt Verri

25 mins: Great work from Mitrovic and Pereira is there to support his striker.

Space opens up for the midfielder, looks to slide a cute pass through to Mitrovic but it doesn’t quite come off.

Mitrovic does get his chance here though, cross whipped in from deep and he gets across his man. Headed wide - would have been offside anyway.

Dan Kilpatrick at Craven Cottage

20:42 , Matt Verri

Spurs are lacking the quality to get out of their own half at the moment and are being made to look extremely sloppy by a sharp, well-drilled Fulham side.

20:41 , Matt Verri

22 mins: Tottenham look so vulnerable at the back.

Reed has it 25 yards out, allowed to cut inside and get a shot away. Blocked. Fulham staying on the attack though, Spurs struggling to get out.

Kane and Son have barely had a kick.

20:39 , Matt Verri

20 mins: Decordova-Reid in space on the right, lays it back to Pereira.

He whips the ball in, Reed there ten yards out and volleys it straight at Lloris. Anywhere else and that was a goal.

Fulham with the better chances so far, really positive start.

20:37 , Matt Verri

18 mins: Dier looks to see the ball out of play, gets a touch on the ball and then throws himself to the ground demanding a free-kick.

A bit of contact from Mitrovic, but not enough for the officials. Corner Fulham, comes to nothing. Headed out before Kulusevski completes the job.

Son briefly thinks he’s in on the counter, Leno off his line to clear.

20:35 , Matt Verri

16 mins: Palhinha absolutely launches himself at Hojbjerg, mad challenge. Missed the ball by about ten seconds.

Advantage initially played but the referee won’t be forgetting that - yellow card for the Fulham midfielder.

20:33 , Matt Verri

14 mins: Kane wins a first corner of the night for his side. Perisic to take.

Swung in deep, Hojbjerg sends it back into the six-yard box on the volley and Davies diverts it over the bar. Tough chance.

20:31 , Matt Verri

12 mins: Hojbjerg dives in once, twice... whistle goes. Eventually Fulham get the free-kick they were calling for.

Maybe just about in shooting range, got to be just over 30 yards out. Pereira the man standing over it.

He does indeed go for goal, straight at Lloris on the bounce.

20:28 , Matt Verri

9 mins: Ream and Diop getting plenty of time on the ball, Tottenham sitting off and letting the centre-backs have it.

Comes to Mitrovic, tries to slide in Reeds but his first touch is just a bit heavy and Spurs can hack it away.

Dan Kilpatrick at Craven Cottage.

20:27 , Matt Verri

It’s been a turbulent week for the club but the Tottenham fans are in tremendous voice & creating an atmosphere.

It took just three minutes for chants of “Daniel Levy, get out of our club”, followed by support for Antonio Conte.

20:24 , Matt Verri

5 mins: Tottenham fans have spend almost the entirety of the opening five minutes chanting about Levy. Not in a positive manner, either. Making their views very clear.

On the pitch Decordova-Reid sends a cross in, good header from Romero.

20:21 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Decent start from Fulham, Reed whipping a cross into the box. Lloris claims with Willian lurking behind.

Robinson then goes on a run on the opposite wing, gets to the byline and his cut back is cleared by Dier.

KICK-OFF!

20:19 , Matt Verri

At. Last.

We’re now up and running at Craven Cottage.

20:17 , Matt Verri

A 15 minute delay due to the District Line giving up, and now we have to wait a bit more.

Referee is having problems with his communication.... stuff.

Here we go...

20:12 , Matt Verri

Teams are lined up, mascots looking absolutely freezing.

Lloris leading the Spurs side out, the Frenchman has to rapidly improve his form. So many mistakes in recent weeks.

Not long now!

20:06 , Matt Verri

Kick-off coming up in just under ten minutes.

It’s a very cold night at Craven Cottage - Kane has had that hat on from the moment he stepped off the coach.

Silva: Staying up the priority

19:58 , Matt Verri

Fulham have picked up 31 points in their first 20 Premier League games of the season, but Marco Silva is certainly not getting carried away.

“Our ambition is to stay in the Premier League, it’s so important for us,” Silva said.

“We know that 40 points is sometimes a magic number. If you achieve it, when you achieve it, we can talk about it. One of the keys, and from last season, my answer every week was the same: game by game, three points for the next week. We don’t change.”

Kane: Mood has to change

19:44 , Matt Verri

“It is down to us to do the talking on the pitch, it starts tonight with a big game,” Kane says ahead of the match.

“We don’t play [in the Premier League] for two more weeks, so important to get the three points and change the mood a bit.

“Whenever you lose two games in a row it heightens [frustrations]. We played first and second in the league but we know we can do better and we need to prove that on the pitch.”

Fulham continue to impress

19:38 , Matt Verri

Fulham have beaten Chelsea, drawn with Liverpool and were a few seconds away from earning a point against Manchester United so far this season at Craven Cottage.

Such an impressive return to the top-flight from Marco Silva and his side - they sit seventh having played 20 games.

Victory tonight and they’ll go above Tottenham and into fifth, only five points off the top four.

Conte’s pre-match thoughts

19:25 , Matt Verri

“I spoke before [in his press conference] that Richarlison is recovering but still not fit, he is very close,” Conte tells Sky Sports. “The next game he can play from the start.

“We have to be focussed in our work, our target and try to improve, especially not to concede a goal.

“If I have to make a comparison to last season, we have attacked the same but the difference has been in defence. We have to continue to work.

“The confidence has to be in the team to play an important game, we have the confidence to play well and get the good result.”

Uncertainty reigns at Tottenham

19:18 , Matt Verri

Even for a club so often as chaotic as Tottenham, this has been right up there in the annals of difficult weeks. Everywhere you look, uncertainty reigns.

Antonio Conte’s future remains up in the air, with reports in Italy over the weekend claiming that contract talks between club and head coach have stalled, and that Conte will walk away in the summer at the end of his current deal.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Conte’s main point of contact with the club, managing director Fabio Paratici, was hit with a two-and-a-half year ban by the Italian Football Federation for his part in a series of alleged financial irregularities at Juventus, where he worked for 11 years before joining Spurs in 2021.

Spurs unchanged

19:12 , Matt Verri

One change for Fulham, as Robinson returns from suspension and replaces Kurzawa at left-back.

Otherwise it’s as expected, with Diop getting the nod alongside Ream. Willian, Pereira and Mitrovic will all be looking to continue their fine form in forward areas.

Tottenham unchanged from the side that were beaten by Manchester City.

Son and Lloris keep their places in the side, with Romero and Perisic at wing-back. Richarlison and Sessegnon among those who have to settle for a place on the bench.

Tottenham get Kane contract boost

18:49 , Matt Verri

Harry Kane is open to starting contract talks with Tottenham next month, writes Dan Kilpatrick.

Kane has consistently said he wants to succeed with Spurs and that still holds true, despite their troubled form and uncertainty over the future of head coach Antonio Conte.

The England captain has entered the final 18 months of his deal and was not interested in opening talks before leading his country at the mid-season World Cup, while Tottenham are reluctant to begin negotiations while their focus is on the January transfer window.

But while Kane is in no rush to put pen to paper, the 29-year-old is open to starting talks with the club in February for the first time since August 2021.

Silva on Kane’s threat

18:40 , Matt Verri

Marco Silva wants his Fulham side to be fully aware of the threat Harry Kane poses, not just in front of goal but in terms of his all-round play.

“We know how he can link really well the game when he drops and how he can be strong after with the moves from Son, Richarlison or Kulusevski, it doesn’t matter who’s going to play out wide,” Silva told reporters.

“Sometimes Kane needs just one touch, but the way he can hold the ball as well, he shows the capacity to make the right passes in the right moment as well.

“Of course, it’s something that we are aware of and is something that we have to try to block in some moments of the game with our central defence, sometimes with the other players, to cover that space because it’s something where they’re really strong.”

Last time they met...

18:24 , Matt Verri

These two sides met earlier in the season, with Tottenham just about coming out on top in north London.

At that point, they were unbeaten in the League with 14 points from their opening six games.

Big response needed

18:16 , Matt Verri

Tottenham were incredibly poor in their 2-0 defeat on home soil to Arsenal - defeat to your biggest rivals isn’t going to do ease fan discontent.

They threatened to lift the mood against Manchester City on Thursday night, when Dejan Kulusevki and Emerson Royal put them two-goals up at the break.

But Spurs fell apart in the second-half, as a Conte side conceded four goals in a half for the first time. Over their last 10 games, Tottenham have the worst defensive record in the Premier League.

Conte ‘relaxed’ despite poor run

18:09 , Matt Verri

Antonio Conte says he feels under “zero pressure” from the club to turn around their poor run of results.

Spurs have fallen behind in the race for the Champions League qualification after three defeats in four Premier League matches.

Conte’s long-term future remains in doubt, with reports in Italy over the weekend claiming contract talks with the club have stalled and that he will walk away in the summer.

Speaking to Standard Sport at his press conference on Friday, Conte said: “The club to put pressure on me, about making progress? I am here and you can see the club see every day my work, what I do with my staff and I have zero problem.

“I have zero problem about this aspect. I am really relaxed about this aspect because I know my work here, but also I think on the pitch you can see my work every day and this is my last problem.

“I have zero, zero problem. If the club is happy, I am happy. If the club is unhappy, I am sorry, it means that I am not so good for them.”

Prediction

18:01 , Matt Verri

Fulham have little reason to fear what looks a fragile Spurs side, particularly under the lights at home.

Having beaten Chelsea in their last home match, it would be no surprise if they did something similar here.

Fulham to win, 2-1.

Tottenham team news

17:54 , Matt Verri

Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur are both in a race to be fit for tonight’s clash.

The pair have been out with injuries of late, but they both played at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday night as Spurs lost 4-2 to Manchester City despite leading 2-0 at half-time.

Manager Antonio Conte hopes they will be fine for this evening’s clash against Fulham and there are no new injuries to contend with. Hugo Lloris and Heung-min Son are both in poor form, but are set to keep their places in the starting lineup.

Predicted Tottenham XI (3-4-3): Lloris; Romero, Dier, Davies; Royal, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Perisic; Kulusevski, Kane, Son.

Fulham team news

Fulham are well-rested and, currently, aren’t thought to be carrying any fresh injury problems.

Antonee Robinson is available once more after sitting out of the loss at Newcastle through suspension, though Shane Duffy has been ill and Neeskens Kebano is out after rupturing his Achilles in November.

Predicted Fulham XI: Leno; Tete, Diop, Ream, Robinson; Reid, Palhinha; Willian, Pereira, De-Cordova; Mitrovic.
