Fulham will be without Lucaz Piazon for the next two months after the Chelsea loanee underwent surgery on a broken jaw.

Piazon, 23, was injured as he fouled Cardiff City winger Kadeem Harris during Saturday's 2-2 Championship draw in Wales, picking up a yellow card in the process to add insult to injury.

Fulham confirmed after the game that the Brazilian had fractured his jaw during the match, and released a statement on Sunday which stated that the Chelsea forward will be out until at least April following surgery.

The statement read: "Following an injury sustained in the first half of our 2-2 draw with Cardiff City, the club can confirm that Lucas Piazon underwent surgery on his jaw on Saturday evening.

"A rehabilitation period of approximately two months is expected. Further information will be [released] in due course."

Piazon thanked Fulham fans in a series of messages on Twitter, saying: "Thanks God the operation was fine! Will be out for a while but I am coming back, can't finish my season for the whites like that".

The Brazilian is targeting a return before the end of the season, adding: "Just got home guys going to need a few weeks of rest and then back to work again! Will be back as soon as I can".

Slavisa Jokanovic said after the game: "This is the worst news for us, he has broken his jaw. He will have a period out of the squad, and we need to assess Floyd Ayite too, and this is bad news for us."

Piazon has been on loan five times since signing for Chelsea in 2012, and has found form at Craven Cottage with five Championship goals and two assists for Jokanovic's side this season.

The forward told Standard Sport in January that he still wants to succeed at Stamford Bridge, saying: "I came to Europe to play for Chelsea so if one day they want me there, I would be very happy. I also have a feeling that I’d like to stay longer in one place.

"For example, I’d like to come back from my summer holidays knowing where I will be playing in the season ahead. Could that be at Fulham?

"I am having a good time and I was happy to extend until the end of the season.

"We are doing a good job, not far from the top six. We can dream of promotion."
