The agent of Gabriel Jesus, Marcelo Pettinati, has spoken about a Premier League club attempting to ‘hijack’ his Arsenal move this summer.

Jesus ended his successful spell with Manchester City earlier this month by joining Arsenal for £45million. The transfer will give Jesus the chance to play more regularly – away from Pep Guardiola’s rotation style – and potentially become Arsenal’s first-choice striker.

The Brazilian has done well during Arsenal’s pre-season games. He hit two goals against Nurnberg during a 5-3 victory for the Gunners recently.

And Jesus scored again on Sunday, this time against Everton as Mikel Arteta’s side ran out 2-0 winners.

Jesus looks set to thrive with the north London club. And he will be hoping to repeat some of the success he had with City at Arsenal.

The 25-year-old forward won four Premier League titles with City. They will be harder to come across at Arsenal, as the Gunners’ last English crown came in 2003/04. They did win the FA Cup as recently as 2020, though.

Pettinati has conducted an interview about how his client moved from City to Arsenal. He said (via Metro): “Chelsea were one of the teams that tried to hijack the Arsenal move.

“They tried very hard in the final days to get him. By that point, we’d already chosen our new project.”

Late move for Gabriel Jesus falls through

It seems Chelsea chief Todd Boehly made a late play to take Jesus to Stamford Bridge. But the proposal came too late, as the star had already chosen Arsenal.

Chelsea will have been looking at Jesus as a potential replacement for Romelu Lukaku, following his loan move back to Inter Milan.

He would have been a good option too, given his Premier League experience and keen eye for goal.

However, Jesus will like the idea of following in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette’s footsteps at Arsenal.

Chelsea are currently sorting out their defence and have brought in Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. But striker is a position which still needs sorting, as they cannot rely on Kai Havertz all season.

Now Jesus is gone, they could promote Armando Broja into Thomas Tuchel’s squad. But the 20-year-old is wanted by several Premier League teams on loan.

Meanwhile, Marseille are struggling to sign Nuno Tavares from Arsenal due to one key issue.
