Juventus remain in the hunt to sign Gabriel Magalhaes from Arsenal and have come forward with new contact for him recently, according to a report.

Gabriel joined Arsenal from French side Lille in September 2020. The Gunners paid around £23.1million for him, according to BBC Sport.

The centre-back made 32 appearances during his first season at the Emirates, chipping in with three goals and one assist. He became a more prominent member of the team last season, appearing in 38 matches and scoring on five occasions.

Gabriel formed a good defensive partnership with Ben White, following the Englishman’s £50m switch from Brighton last summer.

The two defenders are both 24 years old, which means Arsenal could theoretically rely on them for years to come.

However, Juventus are aiming to take Gabriel to Serie A. They view the uncapped Brazilian as a good replacement for Giorgio Chiellini, while Matthijs de Ligt could also leave Turin.

In May, it was reported that Juve were growing increasingly confident of signing him. Arsenal have held off their attempts so far, however. And the Gunners recently put a £33.8m price tag on his head.

But Juve are showing no signs of stopping their pursuit. According to Sport Witness, who cite Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, they made fresh contact with Arsenal on Sunday.

Juventus want discount on Gabriel Magalhaes – report

The Italian outfit are confident of getting a discount on Arsenal’s £33.8m asking price. Therefore, the discussions will have likely centred around Gabriel’s fee.

The report doesn’t reveal how Arsenal feel about selling the centre-half. But given his importance to Arteta last season, they are unlikely to sanction an exit.

The Gunners are hoping to bring Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez to north London. However, his signing would serve to add to Arteta’s centre-back options, rather than act as a replacement for Gabriel.

There are alternative defenders on Juve’s radar, so Arsenal will be hoping one of these is signed.

Pedulla claims Max Allegri’s team are looking at Monaco star Benoit Badiashile and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic. They also admire Gleison Bremer, although he appears set to join Inter Milan.

Arsenal shouldn’t consider Gabriel’s exit, no matter how hard Juve push. He is part of a solid defensive partnership and breaking this up would come with massive risks.

Plus, if Gabriel has another top season in the Premier League – and in the Europa League – then his value will only go up.

Meanwhile, Arsenal outcast Lucas Torreira has spoken openly about a possible exit route.
