Gage, Green get top scoring honors in Joplin's loss

Feb. 2—Despite falling to Nixa 72-43, Joplin's Trenton Gage and Brecken Green led all scorers Friday night inside Kaminsky Gymnasium at Joplin High School.

Gage totaled 13 points and Green 11. Nixa only had two players in double figures — Jaise Combs and Devon Kemp — and they both scored 10 points. But the visiting Eagles had 11 players score.

Joplin trailed 17-13 after the first quarter but saw Nixa tally 21 points as it exploded to a 38-22 lead going into halftime.

The visiting Eagles continued to build on that lead throughout the final 16 minutes of action.

"We got off to a pretty decent start; unfortunately, in the second quarter, they made some adjustments that we did not respond very well to," Joplin head coach Nick Pfeifer said. "Defensively, I thought we took away their first couple options, but they had more than we could defend after that. It will be important that we have a good day or two of practice and get ready for Neosho on Tuesday."

Joplin falls to 3-18 and will host Neosho (5-13) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Nixa improves to 14-5.
