Galtier confirms that Messi is leaving PSG this summer amid reports of Man Utd deal
Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has confirmed that Lionel Messi will play his last match for the Ligue 1 side this weekend.
The Argentina international has been strongly linked with a move away from the French club with MLS outfit Inter Miami, Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal and Barcelona all linked.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Thursday, Galtier revealed that PSG’s match against Clermont Foot on Saturday evening will be the final time Messi will pull on the French club’s shirt.
“Clermont Foot will be Messi’s final game at PSG,” Galtier said. “I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football. It will be Leo’s last match at the Parc des Princes. I hope that he will be welcomed in the best way.”
Messi’s father, Jorge, recently shut down reports that Messi’s future had already been decided with a new club chosen.
He said on social media: “There is absolutely nothing with any club for next year. The decision will never be made before Lionel finished the league with PSG.
“Once the season is over it will be time to analyse and see what is there, and then make a decision.
“There are always rumors and many use the name of Lionel to gain notoriety but the truth is only one and we can assure that there is nothing with anyone.
“Neither verbal, nor signed, nor agreed, and there will not be until the end of the season.”
Galtier’s announcement comes in the same week that Premier League side Manchester United were linked with the 2022 World Cup winner.

A report in Spanish publication Nacional claimed that Man Utd ‘dreams of joining’ Neymar and Messi at Old Trafford after L’Equipe recently insisted that the Red Devils were in talks with the Brazilian.
Nacional insist that Man Utd are ‘preparing a bombshell that can shake the Premier League and the entire football spectrum’ after confirming their qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Neymar is understood to be available on a loan deal, as long as Man Utd pay his wages, with PSG keen to get the Brazil international off their salary list.
They add that Messi ‘could arrive at Old Trafford for free‘ with United’s ‘intention is to get ahead’ of Barcelona, who want the return of their former superstar.
The Premier League side ‘want to take advantage’ of Barcelona’s financial issues that saw them lose Messi in the first place.
