Gareth Bale is anticipating talks with returning Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti after Wales’ Euro 2020 campaign.

Bale’s future with the Spanish giants remains subject to major uncertainty with just one year now remaining on his lucrative contract believed to be worth £500,000-a-week.

The 31-year-old spent the most recent season back on loan at Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy is understood to be open to extending that spell, though Spurs would have to renegotiate with Madrid as the initial loan did not include an automatic option to extend for a further year or purchase the player’s services on a full-time deal.

Tottenham’s new manager would also obviously have a say in any potential return, with the club continuing talks with ex-Chelsea coach Antonio Conte about becoming the permanent successor to Jose Mourinho.

Bale - who finished a mixed loan spell at Tottenham with 16 goals despite making only 10 top-flight starts - said on the final day of the Premier League season that he already knew what his future held, but that he would not reveal his plans until after the Euros in a bid to avoid “chaos”.

He previously worked with Ancelotti - who has left Everton to succeed Zinedine Zidane - during the Italian’s first stint in charge at Real, winning the Champions League, Copa del Rey, Uefa Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Discussing his future again during a press conference held before Wales’ final Euro 2020 warm-up friendly against Albania in Cardiff on Saturday, Bale hailed Ancelotti and said: “I know Carlo Ancelotti is a great manager. I get on with him really well, we had some great times in the past.

“As soon as the Euros finishes I’m sure I’ll have a conversation and then I’ll go from there.”

He added: “I’m not thinking about anything until after the Euros. I haven’t spoken to anybody. I’m not thinking about my future.”
