Gary Lineker will host Match of the Day tonight as normal - the first time doing so since the BBC announced his exit from the Premier League highlights show at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Former England striker Lineker has hosted the BBC's coverage of Premier League highlights and live football events for the past 25 years, so has been a consistent feature on the TV screens of supporters of a particular generation for the majority of their lives.

With his £1.35m per year contract due to expire at the end of the current campaign, speculation was rife until it was finally confirmed he would be stepping down from Match of the Day duties.

That announcement was made during the international break so as of yet Lineker has not appeared on the show since. This is set to change tonight when this weekend's programme airs on BBC One at 10:30pm on Saturday (November 23).

As per the BBC website, the broadcaster's summary reads: "Gary Lineker introduces highlights of the day’s seven Premier League games, including the fixture between Manchester City and Tottenham."

Highlights are also due to be shown from Leicester vs Chelsea, Arsenal's home clash with Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace's trip to Aston Villa, Brentford's trip to Everton and Fulham's home match vs Wolves.

The former Tottenham and Barcelona striker is expected to lead the show through to the very final edition this season. He will continue to host the BBC's live football coverage of the FA Cup and internationals, ending with the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

From next season an as of yet unnamed successor will take over on Match of the Day. Immediate favourites for the role included Match of the Day 2 presenter Mark Chapman, fellow BBC Sport presenter Gabby Logan and former Lioness-turned-pundit Alex Scott.
