Gary Lineker gave Germany fans hoping to see Jurgen Klopp as the next head coach a warning regarding what the former Liverpool boss might do.

After Germany's 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 quarter-final, many on social media have begun wondering what life would be like after Julian Nagelsmann's tenure leading the club comes to an end. Naturally, that discussion has come with fans wanting Klopp to take over, should the position be open when he returns from his self-imposed break.

Lineker has another idea of where the German could go if he chooses not to coach Germany or the United States Men's National Team (USMNT). The England legend's suggestion will take him completely off the pitch, however.

During an appearance on The Rest Is Football podcast in May, Lineker shared a rumor that Klopp could return to Germany to head a club he has a history with. "I will be interested to see what Jurgen Klopp does next. I think he will definitely take some time out because I think he's genuine when he says he has run out of energy," Lineker said at the time.

"You can see why that job is so demanding. There will be a battle for him in a year's time. Or they'll be lining up for a year or so's time. I heard a little rumor that he might end up being the president of Borussia Dortmund, which would be amazing."

Considering how successful Klopp was at Dortmund, winning German Football Manager of the Year on three separate occasions and the Bundesliga in back-to-back years among his other accomplishments, it stands to reason the 57-year-old would return to the club.

However, Klopp already has expressed his interest in coaching the German team or USMNT when he returns from his break. That is a change in how Klopp approached the Germany job as in 2019, the former Liverpool boss expressed how he is feeling split on potentially leading the national team.

"I really can not say [if international management would be appealing]. I do not know if I would like to. Now, as of today, I do not feel like it," Klopp said at the time. "As of now, I'm totally happy with what I do and that's important in the whole story. I also could not say one hundred percent if I was the right one [to replace Joachim Low]. If the question ever arises, I would think about it - but not now."

For now, it is up to Klopp to decide whether he wants to coach Germany or USMNT or if he wants to return to Dortmund. That said, the legendary coach could have tipped his hand on which opportunity he is eyeing to take if it becomes available.

During the Fourth of July, Klopp posted a message on social media, which had American football fans in wonderment. "It's the perfect day to think about my trips with Liverpool FC to the States. We've had a great time & the US fans are electric! Happy 4th of July," he wrote on Instagram.

Klopp also has made it clear in the past how he is a big fan of the United States as a country. He also explained how he would like a chance to live Stateside, along with the opportunity to lead the country into the 2026 World Cup.

Should he take the American job, he will have his work cut out for him. For now, he will be focusing on his break, with no shortage of suitors when he returns.
