Despite losing his original opponent, UFC middleweight Gegard Mousasi will remain on the UFC Fight Night 83 card. He is now likely to face Thales Leites in the co-main event.

Mousasi was originally slated to fight Michael Bisping on the London fight card, but that was before UFC officials decided to pit Bisping against Anderson Silva in the main event of the card, which will air on UFC Fight Pass.

Following the switch, Mousasi tweeted, “I am not injured, and I will remain on the UFC London card as co-main event. My manager is working with the UFC to find a new opponent.”

That opponent now appears to be Leites, at least according to Mousasi, who shared a new version of the UFC Fight Night 83 poster showing Silva vs. Bisping and Mousasi vs. Leites. Independent MMAWeekly.com sources confirmed that the bout is being targeted, but had not yet been finalized as of the time of publication.

The bout makes sense on several fronts. Mousasi is currently the No. 9 ranked middleweight in the UFC, while Leites is just one spot behind him at No. 10, making it a compelling match-up. The bout also gives the UFC a solid option if Silva or Bisping suffer any complications forcing either out of the main event.

UFC Fight Night 83: Silva vs. Bisping is slated for Feb. 27 at the O2 Arena in London.
