Gegard Mousasi and Neil Magny Headed to UFC Manila

Company officials added two new marquee match-ups to the upcoming UFC Manila fight card with bouts featuring Gegard Mousasi and Neil Magny.

Mousasi (36-5-2) will step in the Octagon opposite Costa Philippou (13-4, 1 NC) in a middleweight bout, while Magny (14-3) faces Hyun Gyu Lim (13-4-1) in a pivotal welterweight fight.

A former Strikeforce and Dream champion, Mousasi has struggled to gain a foothold in a race for the UFC middleweight championship. He is 3-2 in the Octagon, alternating between wins and losses, but enters this fight coming off of a quick TKO stoppage of former Pride champ Dan Henderson.

His opponent, Philippou, had put together a five-fight winning streak in the UFC, but that came to a screeching halt when he lost back-to-back bouts to Francis Carmont and Luke Rockhold. He is coming off of a win over Lorenz Larkin, though, and will be looking to get some momentum back with a win over Mousasi.

Magny has been on a tear of late, winning five consecutive bouts in 2014, and adding a victory over Kiichi Kunimoto to kick off 2015. After having his momentum slowed by Tarec Saffiedine early last year, Lim bounced back with a win over Takenori Sato in September. The winner takes the next step up the welterweight ladder.

UFC Fight Night 66: Edgar vs. Faber is slated for May 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines. The headlining bout features former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar squaring off with former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber in a five-round, 145-pound bout.
