Yahoo Daily Fantasy: The General’s Budget Picks for Gameweek 35

Wayne Rooney and Vincent Kompany could be good picks this week

Benik Afobe (Bournemouth) – £19

Position: Forward

Fixture: Sunderland (away)

Bournemouth can enjoy the rest of the season with their Premier League status secured for another year. They tore Middlesbrough apart last week in an impressive 4-0 win and they travel to face a Sunderland side this weekend who are already planning for life in the Championship. Afobe has made the striking role his own since Callum Wilson picked up a season-ending knee injury and he’s been in fine form in recent weeks, scoring three times and registering three assists in his last seven matches. I expect the Cherries to put the final nail in the Sunderland coffin with another display of attacking football with plenty of goals.

Patrick van Aanholt (Crystal Palace) – £16

Position: Defender

Fixture: Burnley (home)

The Dutchman has struggled to get his place back after returning from injury due to the good form of his deputy Jeffrey Schlupp (£12). With Palace losing 1-0 to Spurs in midweek, I hope to see PVA back in the LWB role for the visit of Burnley on Saturday. He offers a much better attacking threat than Schlupp having scored four goals this season to add to the six he scored during the previous campaign. Big Sam has Palace firing on all cylinders while Burnley are still rooted at the bottom of the away form table. If PVA starts, I’ll be expecting returns at both ends of the pitch from him.

Wayne Rooney could be in line for a return

Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) – £17

Position: Forward

Fixture: Swansea (home)

Jose Mourinho has been open about the fact that United’s priority for the rest of the season is winning the Europa League which would guarantee them a Champions League place. Wayne Rooney sat on the bench for the duration of the Manchester derby on Thursday evening but I expect to see him back in the starting line-up for the visit of Swansea as Mourinho looks to protect some of his first-team regulars. Following this fixture, United face Celta Vigo (home and away), Arsenal and Spurs in the space of ten days so it’s likely that Rooney will play this one. He started against Burnley last weekend and got himself on the scoresheet. Priced at a mere £17, he’s worth the gamble this week.

Vincent Kompany (Manchester City) – £14

Position: Defender

Fixture: Middlesbrough (away)

The Belgian has managed to get through two consecutive matches without getting injured which proves that miracles do occur. His return to the heart of the City defence has seen them register two clean sheets and he also bagged himself a goal in the 3-0 win over Southampton. City travel to face a Middlesbrough outfit who have scored just 24 goals in 34 league matches. Kompany and co. should register their third clean sheet on the bounce.
