Georginio Wijnaldum says Liverpool must maintain 'confidence and stick together' for top 4 finish

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has said Liverpool have to maintain the belief they can finish in the top four, after the weekend defeat to Crystal Palace.

Jurgen Klopp's side took the lead thanks to an inch-perfect free-kick from their Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

Unfortunately, former Anfield man Christian Benteke came back to haunt the Merseysiders, netting two goals to take all three points back to Selhurst Park.

With this defeat, it leaves the Reds two points clear of Manchester City and three clear of Manchester United. However, due to not having any European football, Liverpool's top four rivals have two games in hand, putting a top four finish into doubt.

Speaking to the club's website, Georginio Wijnaldum said: "[As long as] there’s a chance to qualify for the Champions League, we have to believe in it,

“If you don’t believe you can reach it, it’s already done. We must have the confidence and stick together, helping each other out in moments like this.

"We will fight for the Champions League spot. That’s the only thing we can do now. We can’t change this game anymore, so we have to look forward.

"Against Watford, we can change everything and get a good result. We have to look game by game and at the end of the season we will see what happens."

With the Manchester Derby taking place this Thursday, it will be an agonising watch for Liverpool fans, with both teams snapping at the heels of the red half of Merseyside.
