Messi's two goals mean that he has reached the 40 goal mark for the eighth year in a row, and Pique has claimed that people have began to accept this phenomenal goal scoring record as 'normal' for the Argentine.
Speaking to the club's official website, the Barca defender said, "We are looking at the best player in history.
"We have become used to this and we think it's normal, but we know that when he stops playing these things will be difficult to repeat."
The five-time Ballon D'or winner has netted 25 league goal so far this campaign, more than any other player in La Liga.
Messi is also just six goals away from his 500th Barcelona goal.
His two goals against Valencia proved vital on Sunday night, as the Catalans came from behind to pick up all three points at the Nou Camp.
Goals from Luis Suarez and Andre Gomes helped seal three points for the reigning La Liga champions.
The win leaves them just two points behind Real Madrid, with the sides set to battle in another titanic clash next month.
And Pique believes the title race is far from over.
"I see La Liga as very possible," he said.
"There are many games to go and the difference between the leaders is very small."
