German 1-2 not enough to deny Zubkov

Germany scored a one-two in the final four-man World Cup race of the season in Calgary, while Russia’s Alexandr Zubkov finished fourth to wrap up the overall title.

Manuel Machata piloted Germany 1 to victory in the World Cup finale, posting a two-run time of one minute and 42.72 seconds to edge out fellow countryman Maximillian Arndt.

Arndt’s Germany 2 sled finished in a combined time of 1:48s.

Zubkov secured third place for Russia to win the overall four-man World Cup title; Arndt and Machata taking second and third respectively.

The bobsleigh season concludes with the World Championships, which get underway in Lake Placid, New York on Friday.
