Star San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner learned that riding a dirt bike can lead to bad things.
Bumgarner sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder and suffered bruised ribs in a dirt bike crash on the Giants' off day on Thursday, the MLB team announced on Friday.
He has been placed on the 10-day disabled list.
Bumgarner is out of the hospital, currently resting at the team hotel in Denver, and will be re-evaluated next week regarding a possible return date, with an eight-week spell on the sidelines reported.
The left-hander is a disappointing 0-3 this season despite registering an impressive 3.00 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 27 innings through his first four starts this season.
This is Bumgarner's first trip to the disabled list in his nine-year major league career. The Giants called up right-hander Chris Stratton from Triple-A to replace him on the roster.
