Gigi Hadid has given birth to a baby girl, five months after announcing she was expecting her first child with boyfriend Zayn Malik.

The former One Direction singer announced news of their daughter's arrival via Twitter on Wednesday September 23.

'Our baby girl is here, healthy & beautiful,' Malik captioned a black-and-white photograph of him and his little newborn's hands entwined.

'To try put into words how i am feeling right now would be an impossible task,' he continued. 'The love i feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding. Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine, & thankful for the life we will have together x. [sic]'

Hours later, Hadid shared a black-and-white photograph of their daughter via Instagram, who she revealed arrived over the weekend.

'Our girl joined us earth-side this weekend and she’s already changed our world. So in love [sic],' she captioned the sweet shot of their hands together.

After sharing the news to her 57.3 million Instagram followers, several of the New York-based star’s close friends and colleagues congratulated her on becoming a first-time mother.

'Welcome babygirl! So happy for you guys,' model Hailey Bieber commented.

Emily Ratajkowski wrote: 'Congratulations Gigi & Zayn!!'

The news comes days after the model's mother shared a photograph of her and the star 'waiting patiently' for the baby to arrive.

In the snap, Hadid, her sister Bella and the matriarch all touch her pregnant belly with their hands.

Days prior, Hadid's father Mohamed shared a picture of a handwritten poem titled ‘Grandpa's Heart' on Instagram, that he’d written for his ‘little grandchild’. As a result, he incidentally had fans speculating that the model's daughter had already arrived - rumours he soon denied.

In the caption of the post, he noted: ‘In the name of God the The merciful I want to say l love you and so proud of you @gigihadid. [sic]’

Last month, Hadid revealed her due date while sharing several photos from her recent pregnancy photoshoot on Instagram earlier this month.

In the photos and behind-the-scenes footage, the supermodel wears a sheer green dress and a cropped white vest top, jeans with the buttons undone and noted that she was 33 weeks pregnant when the snaps were taken on July 26.

Since announcing her pregnancy in April, the supermodel has remained relatively quiet when discussing how she’s been feeling while expecting.

In addition to revealing that her pregnancy cravings have largely consisted of bagels, the Californian-born beauty recently took to Twitter to silence rumours that she has been purposefully attempting to disguise her pregnancy bump.

During an Instagram Live in August, the star answered a question relating to her not showing much of a ‘tummy’ during her pregnancy. ‘This angle and the really baggy jumpsuit make for an optical illusion. From the side it's a different story!’ she replied.

However, when reports emerged suggesting that Hadid was trying to hide her bump, she took to Twitter to state: ‘I said in a baggy jumpsuit the front and side views are visually different stories—not that that was intentional or I was trying to hide anything.'

‘Will be proud and happy to share "insight" when I feel like it, thanks. For now I am proudly experiencing and sharing this time with my family and loved ones.’

Hadid confirmed her pregnancy news days after celebrating her 25th birthday with her family at her mother Yolanda Hadid’s Pennsylvania farm.

After rumours of her pregnancy hit the headlines, during an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show the model revealed: ‘Obviously, we wished we could have announced it on our own terms but we're very excited and happy and grateful for everyone's well wishes and support.

‘Especially during this time... it's a nice silver lining to be able to be home and be together and really experience it day by day.’

Speaking about the possibility of motherhood in the future, in February she told i-D: ‘I think that as I get older... well one day I'll start a family and I don't know if I will always be modelling.

‘I love the creative side of fashion, it's so fulfilling. The people I work with make me so happy, I'm so lucky to be around them. But who knows? Maybe I'll take up full time cooking!’

Congratulations, Gigi and Zayn!
